Specialist singles holidays are often for specialist groups like birdwatching, walking, archeology, photography.

This is not the type of holiday I want. I prefer the sun, a pool, very near the sea, safe deposit facilities, good international cuisine. I prefer to eat the local food of the country I stay in. (In Sri Lanka I had the fish curry and rice from the breakfast buffet.)

There are women who live alone and holiday alone, through no fault of theirs. They have split up with a long term partner or their partner has died. They have moved to a new job, or to a new area where they do not know anyone. They do not know their neighbours and have family, sometimes hundreds of miles away that they contact infrequently. Share those women friendly places.

I went on holiday to Sri Lanka and took a journey across the island the Trincomalee area which is in the area where there are terrorists. I had a vehicle and driver provided by the Hotel I was staying in on the west coast. The journey took six hours each way and about half way across I suddenly thought if anything happens to me no one would know. It would have been so much better if there had been other single women in the hotel that I could have talked to and at least said where I was going and when I was expecting to be back.

HOLIDAYS WANTED
I enjoy holidays and am currently going on my own. When booking a holiday I look for a hotel with en suite facilities, a pool and safe deposit facilities. I am single and am looking for places to go where I will feel safe and comfortable. I prefer long haul, Far East, Maldives, Caribbean, Kenya, Goa, India.

HOLIDAY WANTED
I don't know whether you can help..I'd love to learn Spanish or Italian in the respective countries this summer for a few weeks. However, I'm travelling alone and am 42. Are you able to point me in the direction of any companies or courses which would cater for someone like me? I don't want to learn with teenagers or retired folk (no disrespect to either category!).

CYPRUS, PAPHOS BACK TO TOP

CYNTHIANA BEACH HOTEL is a three star hotel just outside of Paphos with a local bus going to Paphos from the top of the road, about 5 minutes walk up a lit road. There are a number of restaurants within easy walking distance of the Hotel. I went here alone in August.


 
CYPRUS, PROTAROS BACK TO TOP

CAPO BAY HOTEL is a four star hotel in the center of Protaros. It is extremely comfortable and easy access to the town of Protaros. The are many restaurants and bars within easy walking distance from the hotel.

 
DOMINICAN REPUBLIC, BAHIA PRINCIPE BACK TO TOP

CLUB BAHIA PRINCIPE
A 4 star all inclusive complex. The hotel and tour operators arrange excursions to other parts of the island. This resort is suitable for the single traveller.

 
GREECE AND THE ISLANDS BACK TO TOP

I would love to go to the Greek Islands again having been to a number of the islands with a previous partner. The hotels were often up a dark roadway with the restaurants and bars some distance away. I would not go there on my own because of the lonely walks at night back to the hotel from the restaurant. Perhaps you know of areas in Greece where there is a hotel with a pool and restaurants and bars within easy walking distance?

 
KENYA BACK TO TOP

JADINI BEACH HOTEL just south of Mombasa in Kenya. It is a three star hotel right on the beach, with air conditioning, restaurants, bars and evening entertainment which you can avoid if you want to. I felt really comfortable. The staff were attentive without being over familiar.

 
SRI LANKA BACK TO TOP

BROWNS BEACH HOTEL, Negombo, Sri Lanka. The three star hotel is on the edge of the fishing village and right on the beach. Taxis are available at the hotel entrance to go into the main village for shopping. Tours of the island are arranged by the tour representatives and the hotel will supply a vehicle and driver for individual tours if required.
